A feeble flagellate

This small oval flagellate vibrates a short flagellum in the front and trails a long flagellum to the rear. Although it waves the front flagellum and body slightly, it doesn’t change its position.

Commentary by Prof. Yuji Tsukii, Hosei University
This flagellate belongs to the genus Anisonema in the order Euglenales.

It is characterized by two kinds of flagella at the top of the cell: one flagellum extends forward and the other backward. The organism in this video appears to be smaller than typical Anisonema and to have a hard body. More information is necessary to determine whether this is Anisonema or a related organism.
